Frozen Sunrise
Lake Minnewasta, Canada

1/7
The frozen sunrise was an invited winter installation located in a frozen lake nearby the United States and Canada border, between the province of Manitoba and the state of Minnesota. Its design was conceived to resemble a sun setting in the icy lake.
Built entirely from locally sourced ice, the installation remained in place until the thaw, ultimately returning to the landscape from which it came. The work was part of a broader series of community activation initiatives sponsored by the City of Morden and the Pembina Hills Arts Council, with the collaboration of local artists and architects.
